How different was living and working in Birmingham?

Working and living here in Birmingham was an excellent experience. My family and I really enjoyed our stay which was decorated by awesome professional opportunities and learning at QEHB, superb schooling for my daughters and enjoyable family time. I have got four lovely daughters who are my lifelines:  Warda, 16 years, Sara, 14 years, Fatima, 12 years, and Diya, who is 10 years old. They had an excellent experience in Birmingham schools and mixed with children from across the world.

As a family, we enjoyed various food and restaurants especially Turkish, Middle Eastern and Pakistani restaurants. We used to go out on weekends and always loved going to Wales.

What made you want to become a doctor?

I was inspired by my elder cousin, who is a surgeon now. He serves the community with all his enthusiasm. I come from a background where the local population has huge deficiencies in medical facilities and professionals.

What will you miss most about Birmingham?

We will miss long summer days when you have enough time after working hours and we used to go to different parks.

What will you miss most about UHB?

I will miss the dedicated care with utmost respect for patients. I will also remember the professionalism in the interventional cardiology department, and the excellent training venues.
I loved working at UHB where my interventional skills, appearances in international conferences and research work were groomed.
Finally, I’ll miss all my enthusiastic and dedicated colleagues.

What are your next steps?

I am going to join Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) in Rawalpindi. AFIC is a highly renowned institution in Pakistan, with all disciplines of cardiology and cardiac surgery. It was my training institute when I started my cardiology journey before coming to Birmingham.

Working at UHB was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity where I learnt so much; I’ll be taking back home all my skills and knowledge to benefit my motherland and my community.
