    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I Need a Blood form?

Patients attending Good Hope, Heartlands or Solihull require a printed blood form, unless specifically instructed otherwise. If you are unsure, please consult your GP or clinician before your appointment date.

    Fasting and timed blood tests

You will be told if your blood test requires fasting and/or needs to be done at a specific time when you receive your blood form. If you are making an appointment, please let the booking team know this information at the beginning of your call to help them schedule an appointment at the right time for you.

What numbing options are available for Children’s blood tests?

Ethyl Chloride “Freezing” Spray is available in clinic for children aged 3 years and above, and provides a short-term, instant numbing effect.

EMLA cream is suitable for most young children and is available via prescription from your GP or over the counter at your chemist.

At least 45 minutes before the child’s appointment, apply a layer of cream across the inside of the elbow (do not rub in) and cover.

Please ensure to fully read the EMLA Patient Information Leaflet included in the box prior to use.

Where can I find my test results?

Test results go back to the GP or clinician who requested them and are usually available within a week. Unfortunately, our booking team and labs are unable to provide results directly to patients. If you have a query, please direct this to your requesting GP or clinician.
