Pharmacy

The Pharmacy department provides a comprehensive pharmacy and medicines management service to University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) and a variety of external organisations.

The Pharmacy team comprises of:

• pharmacists
• pharmacy technicians
• pre-registration students
• pharmacy assistants
• administration staff

The Pharmacy department provides a range of services, including:

• inpatient medication
• discharge medication
• outpatient medication
• clinical trials
• medicines information
• aseptic production

Pharmacy has close links with all clinical services, with dedicated clinical pharmacists who work closely with each speciality. Pharmacy involvement at ward level is aimed at promoting safe, effective and economical use of drugs.

Activities include a prescription monitoring service, adverse events reporting, and the provision of specialist counselling on drug therapy. As well as clinical ward services, the Pharmacy Department produces a medicines information service, aseptic reconstitution service, radiopharmaceuticals and operates a large clinical trials department.

As a Trust with a fully integrated electronic prescribing system, we are able to deliver enhanced pharmaceutical care.
