Special Care Dental Service

The Special Care Dental Service provides treatment for children, adults and older people with additional needs who are unable to access general practice dental care because of a mental or behavioural impairment or disability.

The Solihull based service provides:

  • routine dental care for patients with additional needs
  • mobile dental units to target schools with high tooth decay rates and special schools
  • home visits for housebound patients
  • oral health promotion services
  • IV or inhalation sedation for anxious/phobic patients
  • general anaesthetic for adults with complex needs
  • cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for dental anxiety
  • support for dysphagia patients
