The Special Care Dental Service provides treatment for children, adults and older people with additional needs who are unable to access general practice dental care because of a mental or behavioural impairment or disability.
The Solihull based service provides:
- routine dental care for patients with additional needs
- mobile dental units to target schools with high tooth decay rates and special schools
- home visits for housebound patients
- oral health promotion services
- IV or inhalation sedation for anxious/phobic patients
- general anaesthetic for adults with complex needs
- cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) for dental anxiety
- support for dysphagia patients
