The Community Orchard and Gardens is a sustainable and volunteer led project for the community to enjoy which brings together local businesses, residents, children, workers and hospital staff.
Business
Businesses that donate equipment, money or the valuable time of employees will help to contribute to the corporate and social responsibilities of the business and is hugely beneficial to the Community Orchard and Gardens.
International corporations such as Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) and Mondelēz International (the makers of Cadbury’s) have sent teams to help clear areas of the site.
If your business could make a difference, please email the Community Orchard and Gardens Team.
Schools
In partnership with a local food school and our green partners, the Orchard aims to encourage children to eat more health food by having fun planting, growing and cooking fresh produce.
We also link the onsite Metchley Roman Fort and the food the Romans introduced to Britain. Raised beds are configured to represent the fort layout, whilst paths around the meadow and earth works represent the fort embankments and service roads.
If you are a part of a school that would like to visit, please email the Community Orchard and Gardens Team.
Volunteers
Volunteers are the backbone of the Orchard. Individuals and groups who donate their spare time help to make a real difference in the local community.
If you are interested in the up-keep of wildflower meadows, know a thing or two about growing turnips or tomatoes (or might like to), have green fingers but no garden or would like to help elderly patients get out of their beds and into a green space, please email the Community Orchard and Gardens Team.
