Haemophilia Comprehensive Care Centre (CCC)

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is a Comprehensive Care Haemophilia Centre (CCC). We provide a full range of 24-hour services, working alongside the multidisciplinary team.

We diagnose and treat a wide range of inherited bleeding disorders, including:

  • Haemophilia A and B
  • Von Willebrand's disease
  • other clotting factor deficiencies
  • Platelet disorders

Our centre compromises a waiting room, two consultant rooms, two consultation rooms and a counselling room. We are a centre of excellence, providing:

  • a team of dedicated specialist doctors and nurses, with 24-hour medical on-call cover
  • emergency assessment and treatment of bleeds
  • regular assessments, reviews and screening
  • acute assessment and treatment
  • diagnostic services
  • genetic testing and counselling
  • specialist haemostasis laboratory
  • support and counselling
  • specialist physiotherapy care
  • home treatment
  • home delivery services
  • social worker, providing emotional, financial and educational support
  • dental and restorative treatment
  • educational support for patients and carers
  • information and advice for health care professionals, friends and employers

We work closely with a number of other specialties in order to provide comprehensive care for our patients, including:

  • Orthopaedics
  • Genetics
  • Genetics counsellor
  • Liver specialists
  • Infectious diseases
  • Obstetrics and gynaecology
  • Ear, Nose and Throat (including a joint clinic once a month with a haematology doctor and an ENT doctor)
