Meet the team

Roles that make up our team

Clinical Nurse Specialists

The nursing team are an integral part of the multidisciplinary Pain Management team working closely with consultants in pain management, clinical psychologists and physiotherapy colleagues. They are involved in many aspects of pain management including running their own clinics, staffing the procedure unit, and assisting with pain management procedures.

The aim of the nursing team is to provide a comprehensive, highly specialist nursing service to people living with chronic pain, helping people to gain a better understanding of chronic pain, reduce the impact of the pain and support those affected to develop skills enabling them to manage the pain more effectively and improve their quality of life.

Psychologists

Psychologists do not prescribe medication or perform medical/physical procedures. Instead, they will work with you to understand the pain and how it has impacted on your life and mood. The aim of this is to understand your pain problem and how it affects you.

Once you have a shared understanding, you and the psychologist can work together to explore alternative ways of coping with the pain problem, manage the emotional impact of the pain better and feel more in control of your life. The aim of any intervention is to help you to improve your quality of life and to live well with the pain.
