Walking to work

Staff and patients walking in the Atrium at QEHB

Walking to work can provide huge benefits to your health, it is mostly low-impact and most colleagues are able to comfortably walk.

Even if it is for part of the journey, walking can provide a convenient way to reduce your transport costs. This may be a walk instead of a car journey or a bus ride to your nearest train station, or a park and ride service.

Many colleagues find that walking onto the hospital sites provides a boost to their mental health too, and a restorative walk at the end of the day is always beneficial to wind down and relieve the tensions of the day.

What are the benefits of walking?

  • It is free
  • Increases energy levels
  • Reduces stress levels

  • Promotes a healthy heart
  • Helps to maintain a healthy weight
  • Does not require special equipment, permits, or venues
  • You can do it with a friend or colleague – it can be a good chance to de-stress and get things off your chest

Don't want to walk alone?
