Referrals

Referral for IVF

Following completion of your investigations, there are a number of different pathways depending on your fertility journey.

Patients who have completed their investigations and have completed ovulation induction treatment may require IVF/ICSI treatment to get pregnant. If ovulation induction treatment has been unsuccessful, patients may qualify for one NHS funded cycle of IVF treatment. If patients have not met the criteria for ovulation induction treatment and want to conceive, they may qualify for NHS funded IVF. This will be discussed with yourselves and your Consultant at your follow-up appointment.

Referral for surgery

If patients require surgery for certain gynaecological conditions then this will be discussed with yourselves and the Consultant at your appointment.

An example of some of these treatments includes:

  • ablation of endometriosis
    • this involves a general anaesthetic and a laparoscopy. Areas of endometriosis are removed during the operation.
  • ovarian drilling
    • this involves a general anaesthetic and a laparoscopy. This procedure may be used for women with Polycystic Ovaries. Several very small holes are made in the ovaries, ovulation returns to a normal pattern for many women following this procedure.
  • oysteroscopy/laparoscopy
    • these procedures may be carried out if required by the Consultant depending on findings from investigations.
