The hand unit is a collaboration of hand surgery teams from orthopaedic and plastic surgery backgrounds working together to provide a comprehensive service to care for adult traumatic and elective hand surgery conditions.
The team of surgeons provides care to patients from across Birmingham, and the unit is a tertiary referral centre for brachial plexus injuries, peripheral nerve injuries and complex wrist conditions.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham is the regional Major Trauma Centre (MTC) for the West Midlands and the national centre for repatriated military trauma patients, many of whom have complex hand injuries.
