The Functional Bowel Service is based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB). The service is run by a dedicated team who work to relieve the symptoms of chronic constipation and faecal incontinence.
These symptoms are often caused as a result of another condition, disease or trauma that has resulted in damage to surrounding muscles or nerves, such as childbirth or multiple sclerosis.
Patients are usually referred to the service by their GP. There are often a number of different pathways that can be offered to patients experiencing these symptoms.
