The Trauma and Orthopaedics Department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) provides expert care for patients with a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions. Serving patients across Birmingham, Solihull, and Sutton Coldfield, the department handles both emergency trauma cases and planned orthopaedic surgeries, offering comprehensive care at sites including Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital, and Solihull Hospital.
Our team of highly skilled consultants, surgeons, physiotherapists, and specialist nurses collaborate to provide personalized care, from advanced diagnostics and surgical interventions to rehabilitation and follow-up. Common treatments include fracture care, joint replacements (hip, knee, and shoulder), ligament repairs, and the management of arthritis, sports injuries, and joint instability.
UHB’s Trauma and Orthopaedics team is committed to providing patient-centred care, offering state-of-the-art treatments in modern facilities. We pride ourselves on offering streamlined pathways to ensure swift diagnosis and treatment, minimizing waiting times and promoting better outcomes.
As a major teaching hospital, UHB is also recognized for its excellence in training the next generation of orthopaedic specialists and contributing to research and innovation in trauma and orthopaedic care.
Advice and refer
University Hospitals Birmingham is using "advice and refer" as the only process for referrals from GPs for this service, using the "advice and guidance" functionality on the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS). This will not change for cancer and two week wait (2WW) referrals.
