Lipid services at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital form part of Pathology services, and is one of others based at Good Hope Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB). The clinic works in association with services including cardiology and stroke specialties, as well as linking to familial hypercholesterolemia and genomics.
Lipid clinics are led by a diverse group, including consultants, advanced practitioners and clinical nurse specialists. The clinics are populated from Primary Care (GP) referrals, referrals from the acute hospital setting, and the Advice and Guidance triage system.
The care provided in clinic may include history taking, physical examinations, a review of blood results and family history and the provision of medication.
