Inclusion and Diversity

At UHB, we are extremely proud to have a diverse medical workforce which reflects our diverse patient population. We want all of our doctors to feel welcome, valued and able to bring their whole selves to work.

Staff Networks

Our organisation believes in the power of staff networks to foster an inclusive and supportive workplace culture. They are created and run by staff, for staff, with support from our Inclusion Team.

These networks provide a safe space for staff to share their lived experiences and have their voices heard. We welcome everyone to join, regardless of whether you identify with the group or want to be an ally and make a difference. You can join multiple staff networks if you wish.

Being a member of the LGBT+ network is a great opportunity to meet and socialise with other colleagues whilst working at UHB. From walking in the Birmingham Pride parade and attending social events to hearing from inspiring speakers at our annual conference and helping shape policies which will improve the experience of LGBT+ staff and patients, the network offers something for everyone. Whether you identify as LGBT+ or you are an ally, please come join!

Staff networks meet online every 4-6 weeks and many of them host events which you can attend in person throughout the year, including an annual conference. We know that clinical staff may struggle to attend meetings regularly so we ensure that all members are kept up to date via network communication channels. Recordings of selected past events are available here:

For further information, check out the staff network intranet pages and leaflet. You can also contact the Inclusion team regarding any of the networks listed above, at inclusion@uhb.nhs.uk.

We have compiled a list of links to established doctor-specific organisations which provide support, community and useful resources. If there are any other organisations you feel should be added, please contact:
